Hey y’all…I’m  kickin’ it in Austin, Texas today,  so I’ve got the AMAZING Sarah Barksdale to drop some design knowledge on ya! Enjoy!!

…………………………………………………

Happy Friday everyone, I am an interior designer in Nashville and I write a blog called Sarah Barksdale Design. When Keri asked me to do a guest post for KP Spaces I was thrilled! Today I want to talk about decorating with mercury glass. I am sure many of you have seen it around, it has been pretty popular lately, and for good reason because it is gorgeous and very easy to decorate with. Mercury glass items are basically any kind of metallic, antique-looking glass piece. I love using these items as accessories when I am trying to add an element of antique to a look or dress up a space.

See how pretty and whimsical this wedding table looks with the mercury glass candles and vases? Mercury glass items come in all shaped and sizes, which makes them easy to decorate with.

One distinct trait of mercury glass, besides it’s metallic look, is that there are splotches and imperfections throughout the surface which makes it look antique. So when you are looking for mercury glass pieces don’t look for something that is perfect, part of the beauty is in the uniqueness of each item.

Decorating with mercury glass can also be a great addition to your holiday decor this upcoming season! Wouldn’t it be fun to add a little dressiness and glam to your festivities?

You could use glass pumpkins to dress up your Thanksgiving table. Isn’t this table setting gorgeous?

Or fill some vases with rustic branches to add some contrast to the romantic mercury glass look.

  2. I love mercury too. I bought about a dozen votive candle holders from Anthropologie years ago and they still decorate my bookshelves and bring in such lovely warmth during special dinners and parties. xo

Thank you for the post, Sarah! I love the look of Mercury glass as well– especially for holiday decorating. It’s so festive! Your post has inspired me to find some mercury hurricanes for my mantle. Thanks for adding resources, too! :)

I started collecting Mercury glass a few years ago. LOVE IT! So was happy to see your post with all the different options. I bought 2 of those mercury pumpkins from Pottery Barn this year. Love decorating with them. It’s hard to find in my hometown so usually when I go to Seattle, I will look for pieces. Would you happen to know a good website that carries mercury glass items to purchase?

    Thanks again……..made my weekend!

P.S. Never mind, I just saw the different companies that carry it on your post. Thanks for doing that.
